Newborn Visa

Residents of Qatar whose babies are born in their home countries will need to request a free Newborn Visa on arrival. This applies when bringing newborn babies under 6 months old into the country for the first time. The Newborn Visa is a temporary 3-month visa that allows the child into the country in order for their residence permit to be processed. If you are bringing a newborn to Qatar, you will require:

  • A valid passport for the baby, or have the baby included on your passport;
  • The original, attested birth certificate of the baby;
  • And, both parents will need to have valid residence permits.

Once you have entered the country, you will need to start the child’s residency application as soon as possible (as per the guidance in the Residence and Work Permits article). A fine of 10 QAR per day is charged if the temporary visa is exceeded.
Babies born in Qatar, to residents of the country, will need to have a valid residency permit. To obtain a residence permit, parents of the newborn baby must first acquire a birth certificate and a passport for their child. The residence permit can be applied for, as per the guidance in the Residence and Work Permits article, once the birth certificate and passport have been obtained.
