How Cold Can it Get?

The lowest temperature ever recorded in Qatar's history was a chilly 1.5 degree celsius.

In February 2017, Qatar's weather station in Abu Samra (to the far south of the country) recorded an early morning temperature of 1.5 degrees celsius. Previously, the lowest recorded temperature was in Mesaieed (44km south of Doha) in January 1964. The temperature then was a slightly warmer 3.8 degrees Celsius.

However, when you compare Qatar's 2017 cold snap to the world's lowest ever recorded temperature, it doesn't seem quite so bad! In Russia, July 1983, the lowest ever recorded temperature was a bone-chilling minus 89.2 degrees Celsius.
