Congratulations from FIFA’s President

Speaking at the 70th FIFA Congress 2020, Infantino gave the 211 members tuned into the video conference "advanced warning" that the World Cup in Qatar would be "the best World Cup ever". His comments came on the back of his praise for Qatar's recent work on its human rights standards.

The recent changes include a landmark decision to remove the need for migrant workers to obtain their employer's permission to change jobs while also establishing, for the first time in the region, a non-discriminatory minimum wage. In conjunction with the International Labour Organization (ILO), Qatar has effectively dismantled the 'kafala' sponsorship system, marking the beginning of a new era for the Qatari labour market. A significant step for the country in the area of worker's rights.

Infantino concluded that "This is a milestone, this is a game-changer, and it's not me saying this — it's the ILO, and it is partly thanks to the spotlight of hosting the FIFA World Cup."
