A Well-Deserved Rest

Thoroughbred racehorses have resting heart rates of just 40 beats per minute (bpm). A human heart beats between 60 and 100 bpm at rest.

During maximum exertion, a horses heart may beat up to 250 bpm. At the age of 20, during exercise, humans can expect a heartbeat of up to 200 bpm (maximum). A figure that drops right down to an average of 180 bpm by the time you are 40 years old.
